Zobnatica is in Vojvodina, north of Bačka Topola, on the Central Bačka loess plateau. The nature park includes part of the range of deep, spacious forested valleys of the central section of the Krivaja brook.

The wooded valley slopes harbour the remains of relict steppe species which are among some of the most threatened plant species in the Pannonian region.

The most important plant species are Astragalus excapus and Allium atroviolaceum boiss (a purple-flowered wild onion). Parts of the indigenous groves, together with the remains of planted oak woodland and former parks, serve as a refuge for those woodland species in the region whose natural woodland has been completely destroyed.

The creation of a reservoir upstream from the artificial lake has brought about a spontaneous revitalisation of the wetland habitats which had almost disappeared from the region as a result of the artificial diversion of waterways.

This island of natural habitats in the midst of agricultural land is inhabited by rare amphibian, reptile and small mammal species. There are 148 bird varieties registered in the region, of which 75 nest there. The water and swamp habitats are of special importance for a great many migrating bird species who use it to rest and feed.

The many archaeological sites indicate that this region has long been populated. The tradition of quality farming here, such as the raising of thoroughbred horses, dates to the end of the 18th century. The famous stud farm and hippodrome are at the heart of the tourism and leisure facility. The remains of the old park and the row of Japanese pagodatrees bear witness to 19th-century horticulture.
