BELGRADE – Although the First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic wants to fulfill his promise regarding terminating of the TV subscription, officials in Serbian Government said that there is not enough money in the budget for financing public broadcasting services RTS and RTV, reported Blic.

According to daily “Danas”, this issue brings to disagreement between Vucic and Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic.

“TV subscription, as I promised to Serbian citizens, will be terminated, because I am not in the group of those people who deceived Serbian citizens for 12 years and performed marketing tricks. This is our obligation which we will not abandon,” wrote Aleksandar Vucic on his Twitter account on Thursday.

According to daily “Danas”, it has been determined that for financing of RTS will be required to set EUR 60 million from state budget, while for financing RTV it was determined that it will cost EUR 20 million.

However, “Danas” has also learned that at this moment there are not enough funds for public services in the budget, which has caused the consideration of keeping TV subscription in some form.

“Danas” also writes that officials from Serbian government have confirmed that the funds in the state budget are limited and that there is no space for setting aside money for public services. Also, as “Danas” wrote, the magazine could not reach Ministry of Finance or minister Dinkic to get the answer whether is possible and if yes, how much money would be possible to set for public service.

Sources for “Danas” in RTS said that because of the drastic decrease of collection of TV subscription Serbian government has been paying support to this media house in the amount of EUR 1.8 million per month.

Disagreement between Minister of Finance and First Deputy Prime Minister on this issue is not the first time the two disagree on something.

Also, Dinkic has recently announced the so-called “tax for the rich”, or an additional tax for the other real estate, but somehow, the next day this idea was simply abandoned.

“Danas” also reminded that recently Vucic said in an interview for daily “NIN” that Serbian “economy is his nightmare”.
