BASEL – The member of the Pink Panther group, who escaped a Swiss prison with another inmate, was arrested in Switzerland, the police said in a statement.
According to South African agency Sapa, fifty police officers participated in the arrest of the thirty-four-year-old Bosnian who was found on Thursday in a house in the west of Switzerland, in Chatel St. Denis.
Although the agency does not name the arrested man, according to the data it is obvious that the man is Milan Poparic, who was serving seven years in prison for robbing a jewelry store in 2009. He is the third member of Pink Panther who has escaped from a Swiss prison since May.
On the run the men had help of two associates who were armed., who, during the time set aside for practise, broke down the gate and the barbed wire with a van and then put ladders over the fence. The group of robbers known as Pink Panther, whose members are mostly from the region of former Yugoslavia, are the most successful jewel thieves in the world.
According to Interpol, in 1999 Pink Panther stole jewelry worth EUR 330 million in some spectacular heists.
