Ban Ki-moon calls on Serbs to participate in Kosovo elections

NEW YORK – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for the widest possible participation in Sunday’s local elections in Kosovo-Metohija, and expressed his belief that free and fair elections will constitute a milestone in the strengthening of peace and security.

The UN Secretary General welcomes the progress achieved and the determination of all parties to ensure inclusive elections, free of intimidation and violence, reads the statement released on the UN website.

Ban called on all concerned “to uphold the highest democratic standards and show full respect for the diversity of the population’s views”, and strongly encouraged the widest possible participation.

The UN Secretary General firmly believes that free and fair elections will constitute a milestone in the strengthening of peace and security in Kosovo-Metohija, the statement reads.

  1. I wasn’t aware that Serbia had elected Ban Ki-moon as the head of state for the Republic of Serbia, or even that he was a citizen of Serbia. I guess I need to spend more time keeping up on current affairs. Where exactly was he born in Kosovo?
