BELGRADE – Lebanon will not change its principled support to Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Lebanese Ambassador in Serbia Toufic Jaber said in the talks with Serbian Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic.
During the meeting on Thursday, Jaber noted that as a European partner, Serbia is equally important to Lebanon as the Russian Federation.
The Lebanese ambassador underscored the need for more frequent bilateral contacts and parliamentary cooperation, and pointed to the great possibilities of economic cooperation, including investments in Serbia.
He said that the investments are in the early stages and that an adequate system support is necessary which will involve lasting and operative solution of visa issuance problems.
Stefanovic said that the two countries share traditionally friendly ties which go back in history, and expressed the expectation that the overall bilateral relations would improve, especially in parliamentary and economic terms.
He thanked Lebanon on its persistence as the country stood by Serbia in difficult times, and expressed the hope that despite the financial hardships, Serbia will soon open an embassy in Beirut.
Stefanovic said that there is a lot of room for improvement of all modes of cooperation and added that he would back every initiative in this context.
Stefanovic and Jaber agreed that cultural ties between the two countries need to be reinforces and agreed on the future moves to this end.
