NIS – Nearly a third of 1,350 convicts in the Penitentiary “Nis” volunteered to work at the prison, in construction works and production facilities, which brought multi-million savings to the prison in 2013, “Alo!” reported.
“This year we have produced 90,000 eggs, 21 tons of milk, more than double compared to last year, as well as 38 tons of pork. This year we haven’t bought pork, and for the last three months we don’t buy eggs. Because of convicts of other religions, we also have sheep and cattle, so we didn’t buy that meat either in 2013. Our goal is to produce all the food next year,” said warden of the Penitentiary “Nis”, Aleksandar Grbovic.
The convicts, besides agriculture in production facilities also produced almost 300 water heaters, brand “deligrad”, 120 beds, 3,900 mattresses, 2,280 towels, 1,182 summer prison uniforms, 1,520 winter clothing, 750 sheets and 340 pillowcases.
By law, the convicts working hour costs 32 dinars.
