SOCHI – Serbian Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic announced on Friday at the conference in Sochi that Serbia will strive to achieve wider international cooperation in the area.
“In the wave of the successful foreign policy maintained in the previous period, Serbia sees sports as an opportunity to improve its image in the world because athletes are actually the country’s best ambassadors,” Udovicic said at the gathering of sports ministers of countries participating in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
“We are maintaining excellent cooperation in the region and we have already established a regional university league, but we will not stop there and we will continue expanding our cooperation,” Udovicic said.
He said that by this, he is primarily referring to cooperation with Romania and Bulgaria as the countries with which Serbia will make a joint presentation in attracting the funds for sports infrastructure development from EU funds.
The conference on cooperation in sports and sports infrastructure development was hosted by Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko.
The ministers backed greater role of sports in the global policy and noted that sports is a bridge that connects nations and countries.
