PRISTINA – Kosovo will ask Serbia to pay for “war damages” on charges of genocide committed during the 1998-1999 war, said Hashim Thaci, Kosovo Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for “Anatolia” agency.
According to him, Kosovo will address the International Court of Justice (ICJ) after it assesses “internal and international circumstances”.
“Serbia has unquestionably committed genocide in Kosovo. We have evidence, testimonies and the whole world knows it,” said Thaci who was the political leader of Kosovo Liberation Army in 1999.
“But, as Kosovo is still not a part of the UN, we are trying to find legal basis to raise a lawsuit against Serbia for genocide and prove it to the international justice system,” said Thaci and recalled that the majority of the most powerful countries in the world has already recognized Kosovo, so it expects other recognitions in the future.
