BELGRADE – More than 100,000 people welcomed the youth soccer team of Serbia, which two days ago became the world champion. Serbia on Saturday at U-20 World Cup in New Zealand finals defeated Brazil after extra time with 2:1.

“Eaglets” in an open bus from Stara Pazova to the Belgrade City Assembly were welcomed by more than 100,000 citizens. The crowd greeted youth soccer team of Serbia with songs, torches, flags and banners.

Players were presented separately on the balcony of the City Assembly, and then, along with gathered citizens, sang the national anthem of Serbia as well as the song “Play and Win”, and song about Kosovo.

Veljko Paunovic, selector of U-20 team thanked the citizens for their support, and his speech was interrupted by chants of “you’re taken trophy, Paune”.

The Serbia’s U-20 team arrived in Belgrade early this morning, after which they went to the sports center of the Football Association of Serbia in Stara Pazova, where they were welcomed by the President Tomislav Nikolic.
