ROME – Former European Commission vice-president and Italian foreign minister Franco Frattini believes that Serbia still plays a leading role in the region and that it is in Europe’s interest to support Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, who enjoys a very good reputation in the European Union and the West.

Serbia, he told Tanjug, acted in accordance with their leading role in the region – reforms were being implemented, 2015 had ended with better-than-expected economic results, security was improving and activities and reactions during the summer’s refugee influx had honored border protection principles and showed solidarity with many desperate people, including woman and children.

I think that with the decisions made in Belgrade by the government and PM Vucic, Serbia has shown a true European spirit in a better way than many EU member-states, said Frattini.
