Montenegro to Begin Accession Negotiations With NATO in Mid-February

BRUSSELS – Montenegro will begin talks on joining NATO in mid-February, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Thursday.

On December 2, 2015, NATO invited Montenegro to join the military bloc, in its first expansion into Eastern Europe in six years. Podgorica accepted the invitation the following day. The decision triggered protests in the capital, with some 5,000 opponents taking to the streets.

“In 2015, we took another important decision, which will advance stability in the western Balkans. We formally invited Montenegro to begin talks to become the 29th member of NATO and accession negotiations will begin in mid-February,” Stoltenberg said during his Annual Report for 2015 in Brussels.

In the post-Cold War era, NATO saw a 75 percent increase in membership – from 16 to 28 members. The twelve new members were all in the Eastern Europe, either former Warsaw Pact member states, including three former Soviet republics, or former Yugoslav federal republics.

  1. NATO is a pure aggressor. It is not defensive at all and it never was used when a NATO member was attacked, but instead NATO aggressively attacked countries trying to defend themselves from rebels and terrorists funded and supported by NATO countries.

Now what is Russia going to do about this. Russia has a lot invested in Montenegro – and actually it wasn’t wise as Montenegro had a very corrupt government and did leaned to NATO, despite the bombing. Now, Serbia’s puppet government leans to the EU (despite at least half the Serbian population not wanting it), but at least it is not pro-NATO.

  2. I hope you are right (about Serbia’s “puppet government” not leaning toward NATO). Note, however, that in the Ukraine NATO has lent itself to be the spearhead of the EU — so if, as you say, the puppets lean toward the EU, can NATO be far behind? The pressure is certainly on, and Montenegro (what a joke!) is but a step toward increasing that pressure (spoken openly by the US ambassador “hoping Serbia will recognize Kosovo”. In other words, smile while you swallow the medicine while bowing low, won’t you please; or watch it with that “Trauriges Gesicht” Kafka wrote about.
