Novak Djokovic wins Eurosport’s World Star of the Year award

LONDON – World’s best tennis player Novak Djokovic was named 2015 sportsperson of the year in a global Eurosport poll.

Over 300,000 people took part in the vote, and the Serbian tennis star was a runaway winner with 28.6 percent of the vote, ahead of Barcelona football star Lionel Messi (17.9), Golden State Warriors point guard Stephane Curry (16.5 percent), New Zealand rugby icon Dan Carter (12.7) and athletics world champion Usain Bolt (10.7).

Djokovic finished the season with a 82–6 record and a year-end No. 1 ranking, winning three Grand Slams (Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open) and eight other titles and setting a number of new records.
