BELGRADE – Serbian women have pulled off their their first, historic victory at European Championships, after beating Croatia 8-4 (1-3, 2-1, 3-1, 2-0) in a Group B match at the 2016 Women’s European Water Polo Championship in Belgrade Wednesday.


The Croats had a confident 3-1 lead after the first quarter, but the Serbs, owing primarily to the brilliant Jelena Vukovic, mounted a great comeback and claimed a commanding victory.

Vukovic put the ball into the net four times, Teodora Rudic scored two times, and Ivana Corovic and Tijana Jakovljevic scored one goal each for Serbia.

Serbia will next play Spain, on Friday.
