BELGRADE – NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Phillip Breedlove said during a meeting he had with Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces (VS) Ljubisa Dikovic on Friday that Serbia played a very important role in creating and preserving stability in the Western Balkans and Europe.

We heartily welcome the important steps you have taken to build relationships with your Balkan neighbors, Breedlove said, adding that NATO fully respected Serbia’s military neutrality, the Serbian Defense Ministry said in a release.

The two generals said that the security situation in the region was stable, but certain challenges were there that could lead to undesired developments.

Dikovic said they had also discussed the migration crisis, agreeing that only if everyone worked together could events that might compromise our security be prevented, said the release.
