THE HAGUE – Republika Srpska (RS) general Zdravko Tolimir has died in his prison cell in the Hague Tribunal’s detention unit, the tribunal has confirmed for regional media outlet N1.


In April last year, Tolimir was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the killings of Muslims in Srebrenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina, in the summer of 1995.

During the war, Tolimir served as assistant for information and security affairs to overall RS commander Ratko Mladic.

Tolimir was handed the whole-life sentence in 2012, for having a command responsibility in the destruction of Muslim communities under UN protection in the towns of Srebrenica and Zepa.
