BELGRADE – Serbia has no intention of joining the sanctions against Russia and we hope that they will be lifted as soon as possible, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Monday.
Speaking in the Serbian parliament, where he presented a bill on international restriction measures, Dacic said that sanctions are not a way to solve political problems.
“It is in our interest to become an EU member state, as well as to protect our interests. You cannot ask some countries to back us in the struggle in UNESCO, and join the sanctions against Russia at the same time,” Dacic said during the debate, responding to a question why the bill does not envision international restriction measures based on acts passed by the EU.
The lawmaker’s position was that obligations issuing from membership in organisations in which Serbia is not a member cannot be implemented, Dacic explained.
