WASHINGTON – Since the days of conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, Serbia has made great progress, particularly in recent years under Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, says US Senator John McCain, who believes that the US can provide economic development aid to Serbia and facilitate its European integration.

“They have a strong leader – Prime Minister Vucic,” McCain said in an interview with the Voice of America.

“They are experiencing enormous strains because of the influx of refugees – I think they are handling it well but it is something that obviously cannot continue,” he said.

“Efforts are being made to have more peaceful relations with their neighbours in the Balkans so, overall, I think they have come a long way in the last 10 to 15 years, particularly under the Prime Minister,” McCain said, adding that US-Serbia relations “have improved significantly.”
