BELGRADE – British Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in Belgrade Wednesday as part of a visit to the region. Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic welcomed them at the Nikola Tesla Airport.
Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic and British Ambassador to Serbia Denis Keefe were also at the airport.
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were given the traditional Serbian bread-and-salt welcome.
Over the course of the two-day visit, they will have a series of meetings, with Prince Charles’s speech at Thursday’s reception in the Serbian parliament to be the sole public address.
Serbian president receives British royal couple
Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic received on Wednesday, together with his spouse Dragica, Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles.
After the reception at the presidency building, the Serbian president and the Prince of Wales will lay wreaths at the memorial ossuary to the defenders of Belgrade and the Commonwealth military cemetery.
They will thus pay tribute to the joint fights, ordeals and suffering of soldiers, but also citizens of Serbia and the United Kingdom during the two world wars.
