BELGRADE – U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence Michael Carpenter offered his condolences to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday over the tragic deaths of the two Serbian embassy staffers, Sladjana Stankovic and Jovica Stepic, in Libya.

PM Vucic and the Pentagon official agreed that Serbia and the U.S. share the same goal of determining the full truth through an investigation and exchange of information, the government said in a release.

Carpenter also conveyed greetings to Vucic from U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden, underscoring that the U.S. sees Serbia as a strategic partner and key factor of stability in the Balkans.

The senior U.S. official re-affirmed his country’s support to Serbia along the EU path.

Both officials described the bilateral military cooperation between Serbia and the U.S. as excellent.
