MONTE CARLO  – The world’s number one tennis player was surprisingly knocked out of the Monte Carlo Masters, after losing to Czech Jiri Vesely 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the second round on Wednesday.

It took the Czech player 126 minutes to beat the defending champion for the first time in his career.

Vesely will next face the winner of the match between Frenchman Gael Monfils and Paolo Lorenzi of Italy.

The prize money of the Monte Carlo Masters totals EUR 4,094,505.
