BELGRADE – Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts have allowed Moscow to create a potent military force in the country, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen. Philip Breedlove said.

“I look at the capabilities and the capacities that Mr. Putin is creating in his military force… As you know he has been investing strongly now in his military for over five years. He has created a very potent land force. You have seen his air forces in Syria recently and he has exercised that and he has also got into the long-range precision strike capabilities both from his ships and his submarines,” Breedlove told the Estonian ETV television channel on Monday.

Russia is currently implementing a large-scale rearmament program, announced in 2010, to modernize 70-percent of its military hardware by 2020. The total modernization program cost is estimated to reach about $291 billion.

  1. “The total modernization program cost is estimated to reach about $291 billion” in 10 years.
It is a half of the anual military budget from EUA. Poor Russia Army!

  2. And that is exactly what NATO has done. Ony NATO has encircled Russia, a threat is something that is done without provocation and NATO has provoked Russia no end. Where is your diplomacy? In reality Russia could have pushed NATO back to where it belongs – in USA – for that is what NATO is, USA in all but name. USA does not want peace, it thrives off war. Careful how you say things, USA is an aggressive and parasitic country, it is destabilising the world.

  3. Putin has every right and reason to build up an Army – what does USA think? It alone can have every conceivable weapon, but no-one else can? Russia was dominated by USA once and briefly, never again. I do not want to live under USA influence and why should anyone have to? Does USA wish to live under Russian influence? No? Then do not think Russia relishes USA so close to their borders, think of Russia encamped in Mexico, how comfortable would USA feel?
