BELGRADE – Michel Platini will resign as UEFA president after failing to overturn his ban from football, which has been instead reduced from six to four years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Platini and former FIFA President Sepp Blatter were originally banned for eight years by world football’s governing body.

The decision was later reduced to six years by a FIFA appeal in February.

For Platini, his ban has now been reduced further to four years. A spokesman for Platini’s Paris-based lawyers says he will now resign as UEFA president.
