BELGRADE – The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Congress voted on Tuesday in favor of the football federation of the partially recognized state of Kosovo becoming a member of the European football administrative body.

The 54-member congress voted 28/24 in favor of Kosovo’s membership, with two states abstaining from the vote. The decision comes into effect immediately.

On May 13, the world football governing body, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), is due to vote at its annual congress on whether to admit Kosovo.
