BELGRADE – A number of officers who served in a Turkish battalion within NATO and in EU’s special mission in Kosovo were involved in the recent attempted coup in Turkey.

Sputnik said this has been reported by Turkey’s Anadolu agency, which quoted a Turkish officials who served in Serbia’s southern province for a long time.

The fact those involved in the coup were deployed there “prompts certain considerations,” said the official.

According to him, it is not ruled out that the FETO organization, headed by Turkish U.S.-based opposition Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, “used Kosovo as a rehabilitation center.”

“The fact that a number of military officers – participants in the coup attempt – previously served in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina reinforces the assumption that the terrorist organization FETO operated freely in these countries,” said the Turkish agency, citing Turkish officials.

It further described Kosovo and Albania as “countries” unable to act in any way that is contrary to U.S. foreign policy, and that, taking into account Washington’s support for FETO, they represent “a good springboard for terrorist organizations.”
