BELGRADE – The Republika Srpska Day referendum is in the hands of Republika Srpska and its citizens, and Serbia will not interfere in it, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said Monday.

Republika Srpska is pursuing its policy independently, and rightfully so, but it needs to take into account the broader context – the views of the countries that decide our fates, to an extent that will not deprive it of what independence it has, Nikolic said.

Any interference would be a “violation of the sovereignty and integrity of Republika Srpska,” Nikolic said.

Serbia will respect any decision made by the citizens in a direct referendum and always strive to obtain broad international support for that decision, Nikolic said.
