BELGRADE – Serbia’s EU accession is our goal, and it is no longer a distant dream but a reality that is approaching day by day, the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Michael Davenport, said Friday.

At a conference marking 15 years of the EU-Serbia partnership, he said four chapters in the accession talks had been opened while progress on others was expected within the shortest time period possible.

Past enlargements confirm that, once Serbia joins the EU, its citizens will have higher living standards while young people will have many more opportunities, he said, adding that EU membership would bring direct and indirect benefits to millions of people.

The Serbian government’s commitment to reforms is clear and the EU support means the “line of membership is within Serbia’s reach,” Davenport said.

“I am firmly confident you will cross that line,” he added.
