BELGRADE – An international drug cartel has been dismantled and 30 people arrested in a joint operation of the Serbian and the German police, Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said Tuesday.
The arrests are a big blow to drug cartels, he told an extraordinary press conference, adding that 303 kg of cocaine, 96 kg of cannabis and 106 kg of hashish – worth a total of about 20 million euros – had been seized.
Among those arrested is the leader of the supporters of a Belgrade football club, with three people still sought by the German and the Serbian police as part of the operation, aimed at curbing drug production and trade.
The arrest is an excellent example of cross-border cooperation in the fight against organised crime and corruption, Stefanovic said.
“Serbia will continue its intense cooperation with Germany in all cases of fighting crime and corruption,” he said.
