BELGRADE – The EU path is vitally important for Serbia but the EU must understand Serbia no longer reacts to pressure, Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic told a press conference Friday.

“We want to join the EU, but we cannot join the EU without a state. We are going to the EU like any other country, respecting our national and state interests… and there will be no more intimidation,” he said.

When asked about the dialogue with Pristina and the opening of new chapters in the EU accession talks, Dacic replied chapters 23, 24 and 35 (on Kosovo) were conditional and that, whenever someone in the EU thought Serbia was making insufficient progress, its accession process could be slowed down.

“That is often done to make Serbia accept something that is not in its interest, out of a belief that we react to pressure,” Dacic said.

We will not let anyone humiliate us, he said.
