BELGRADE – The Czech Republic supports Serbia on its EU path and can help it open new negotiation chapters by end-year, Serbian National Assembly President Maja Gojkovic and the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Jan Hamacek said Wednesday.

For the Czech Republic, the Western Balkans is a logical direction of EU enlargement and Serbia plays a key role in it, said Hamacek.

At a press conference, Gojkovic thanked the Czech Republic for supporting Serbia on its EU path.

Noting that the Czech Republic is a friend of Serbia and that there are no open issues between the two countries, Hamacek thanked Gojkovic for specific suggestions on how the Czech Republic can help Serbia.

Conditions that are difficult to fulfil should not be put before Serbia on its EU path, said Hamacek, adding that the Czech Republic had not faced similar conditions.
