BELGRADE – Serbia wants to continue the cooperation with the UK even though the country is leaving the EU, Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic said Thursday, adding that Serbia needed Britain as another pillar of stability.

“I am sure we have many opportunities to improve the economic cooperation and cooperation on safety and security,” Vucic told reporters at a press conference with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, when asked how Brexit would affect the relations between the two countries.

The UK has been present in the Western Balkans for much longer than 50 or 100 years, and Serbia needs it as a pillar of stability and as a country that will always support stability in the region, Vucic said.

“Regional stability is crucial for all of us here and I am very deeply grateful to Boris Johnson and Great Britain for supporting that policy,” Vucic said.
