BELGRADE – Relations in the region definitely must be better, which is not hard to achieve as they are poor now, Serbian FM Ivica Dacic said Friday, adding the door was open to dialogue with Croatia.

Serbia advocates peace, stability and reconciliation in the region and expects improved regional relations in 2017, he said at an annual press conference when asked about regional relations and tension with Croatia.

The door to dialogue with Croatia is open, but it is unacceptable that EU membership should free anyone from the requirement to respect history and refrain from revisionism, he said.

“I am absolutely for reconciliation, but it is not possible if you keep going back to conflicts,” Dacic said, adding a rehabilitation of fascism and Ustashism was underway in Croatia and that the Independent State of Croatia had been a precursor of the Republic of Croatia.
