BELGRADE – Kosovo President Hashim Thaci expressed concern over, as he said, “Serbia’s propaganda campaign”, which induces “fear and interethnic hatred” in the Serbian community in northern Kosovo.
At the same time, Hashim Thaci sought to convince Serbian community in Kosovo that “nothing bad will happen to them” by the security institutions in Pristina and called on the EU and NATO to warn Belgrade to refrain from “provoking a new conflict in Kosovo and the region”.
Serbs gathered today near the main Ibar bridge in northern Kosovska Mitrovica to protest against, as they said, announced demolition of the retaining wall. Gathered citizens told Tanjug reporter that they are scared over what has been happening in the last days.
Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said, after meeting with Kosovo Serb representatives in Raska, that Pristina uses the dirtiest propaganda and that there was no word about the Community of Serbian municipalities in Brussels.
“My message to Serbs is: Do not fall for provocations, peace is our interest”, said Vucic.
Vucic said that everything regarding the bridge in northern Mitrovica was agreed on December 8th with the presence of EU representatives, and that after that Pristina began with propaganda and that the fence, the wall, must be demolished and that it shows that they do not respect made agreements.
He said that temporary institutions in Pristina do not even respect Kosovo laws.
“We talked last night in Brussels, we talked with the mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica all the time, who accepted [Kosovo] propositions not because he is scared but because he wants to preserve peace. After that they said – it is not enough”, said Vucic and added that obviously everything was done to make Serbia guilty for everything and responsible for everything.
Vucic said that he has “a myriad of evidence and witnesses, notes”.
Prime Minister repeated that talks in Brussels last night were difficult, that “they are saying all day that they have been threatened by someone – Serbian police and army – and where are they?”.
Someone has guilty conscience, and we are being accused of propaganda, noted Vucic adding that Belgrade would “fight with truth and justice”.
He pointed out that ROSU units (Kosovo special police) have never more frequently patrolled Serbian villages.
Vucic also said that he will not allow foreign ambassadors to determine where Serbian army will be deployed. “They can decide it in their own country, not in our, they should know what their authorities are”, said Vucic adding that he told them everything in the face.
He urged EU foreign policy and security chief Federica Mogherini and her team to react to Pristina’s conduct, noting the EU had clearly said it would react if someone violated the agreement reached in Brussels late Wednesday.
“I want her to make it clear that the (Kosovo) Albanian side did that – anything else would mean dodging responsibility”, Vucic told reporters in Raska, central Serbia, after a meeting with Kosovo Serb representatives.
Mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica Goran Rakic said that EU openly sided with the Albanian community.
