A monument to Chinese philosopher Confucius was unveiled on Wednesday in Belgrade’s Square of Serbian-Chinese Friendship.

The unveiling was done by Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali and Zhang Chunxian, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China.

They said the monument celebrated the sincere and unbreakable friendship between the two nations, Tanjug reported.

The monument is located at the site of the former Chinese embassy in Belgrade which NATO attacked during its 1999 war against Serbia.

Mali and Zhang laid wreaths at a memorial dedicated to the victims of the embassy bombing, that left three people dead and 20 injured.

Also on Wednesday, Zhang and his delegation were received by Serbian Prime Minister and President-elect Aleksandar Vucic.

  1. I think putting up a monument to Confucius in Beograd is great , it makes people examine history and see how European history and culture was influenced from China by people like Marco Polo and because history can and does repeat itself it allows Serbia to be the Foundation of the Silk Road which will be what saves Europe economically . Serbia is far sighted and China is the right partner at the right time . This monument on the sight of the missile attack which killed many innocent Chinese people is very significant and symbolic lest we forget
