PM and President-elect Aleksandar Vucic has confirmed rumors that Bratislav Gasic will take over as head of the Security Information Agency (BIA).
Earlier in the day reports published in two Belgrade-based dailies said that the former defense minister – who was sacked after making a sexist remark at the expense of a B92 reporter – will replace Aleksandar Djordjevic at the helm of Serbia’ civilian security agency.
Asked whether Gasic can perform the new role considering his dismissal as defense minister, Vucic said:
“Yes, he will be the BIA chief. He managed for a year and a half without holding any office. He has many good qualities, he is a man who knows everything about security.”
“Bratislav Gasic is a very hard-working, dedicated man, loyal to his state. I am grateful to Djordjevic for preserving Serbia’s full stability and for his exemplary and responsible intelligence work,” Vucic told Blic.
The daily interpreted this as Vucic “practically confirming” that Gasic will take over as BIA director.
