The decision on the establishment of the National Council for the Coordination of Cooperation with Russia and China has been published in the Official Gazette.
This body will be chaired by Tomislav Nikolic, whose term in office as president expires at the end of May.
The decision states that the task of the Council is to consider, direct and coordinate the implementation of the Agreement on Strategic Partnership between Serbia and Russia, and the Agreement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Serbia and China.
The task of the Council is also to consider and guide cooperation between Serbia and China in connection with the implementation of China’s Belt and Road strategy in Serbia.
The Council’s president and members are appointed by a special act of the government, while the Council has a secretary who is participating in its work without holding a voting right. The secretary of the Council is the director of the Office of the National Council.
The Office is a service of the government whose task is to perform professional, administrative and technical jobs for the Council. The Office will be headed by a director, appointed by the government for a period of five years – according to a decree, also published in the Official Gazette.
The decision and the decree were published on May 22, and will come into force eight days after this date.
