The trial of the leader of the Civic Initiative SDP, Oliver Ivanovic, continues today at the Basic Court in Kosovska Mitrovica.

The court previously overturned the first-instance verdict by which Ivanovic was sentenced to nine years in prison and ordered to have a retrial.

Ivanovic is charged with war crimes against civilians committed on April 14, 1999.
The court had acquitted him on to the second count of the indictment, which charged him with crimes committed in 2000.

Ivanovic has been released from prison pending the outcome of the trial.

In a statement for Radio Kontakt Plus, Ivanovic said that he expects the trial to go much faster than before, “that it will not be torturous like the one before,” and that he expects “a fair and just judgment.”

“I have nothing to do with the aforementioned crimes,” Ivanovic said and added that he expect to be acquitted.
