The Macedonian government said on Monday it was committed to building good neighborly relations with Serbia, Beta is reporting.

Skopje also “hailed statements from Belgrade calling for the protection of friendly ties and returning to usual practice.”

“Regarding the concrete case, without making hasty conclusions, we welcome statements from Belgrade, calling for the protection of friendly relations and returning to the usual state of affairs,” the Skopje government said in a statement, adding that it was “firmly committed and was undertaking intense steps toward resolving, rather than creating problems, and promoting good neighborly ties, cooperation and partnership with Serbia, as well as with other countries in the region.”

“We are sure that it is the sole way for the region to go forward,” the statement said.

Reporting on Tuesday, Beta said that the Macedonian government would not discuss the diplomatic incident with Serbia as it meets today, and that it “remains to hold the position it announced earlier.”
