Citizens will have the opportunity to declare themselves on “the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia” in a referendum, says Kosovo President Hashim Thaci.
In an interview with RTK, he said that “this agreement” would have to be “in the direct will of citizens,” Beta reported, citing the website KoSSev.
The talk of a possible referendum was made by Thaci only a few hours after he on Thursday met with his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic, and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini in Brussels.
Thaci said that he “expects Kosovo to form a team of unity with representatives from political parties and civil society.”
According to him, “there are many open questions left – but negotiations cannot go on indefinitely, and the dialogue process needs to be concluded once and for all.”
Thaci also said that “in this direction, the EU should take on the role that belongs to, and run the process with the support and direct involvement of the United States.”
“Only their direct participation represents a strong guarantee for taking the steps and quick decisions, real, sustainable and functional,” the Kosovo president said.
Thaci will soon travel to the US where he meet with President Donald Tramp, said KoSSev.
