Serbia will for the first time have two football clubs in “the European spring” – i.e., the spring phase of European club competitions.

Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) late on Thursday joined Partizan, who previously qualified for Europa League’s knockout stage.

Red Star finished second in their group, behind England’s Arsenal, by beating Germany’s Cologne (Koln) 1-0 in Belgrade late on Thursday.

Red Star’s and Partizan’s next opponents will be known after a draw on December 11.

Meanwhile, Red Star fans drew praise from Serbian officials for displaying a large banner reading, “Stop violence against women” – in this way joining the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence campaign.
