BELGRADE – Famous basketball coach Aleksandar Petrovic died on Monday at the age of 56 after a long disease. Petrovic was born in Pozega on October 14, 1959 and during his career, he coached Belgrade-based Radnicki, Hemofarm, FMP, Lokomotiv – Rostov, UNICS, Zalgiris and Azovmash.
He also assisted coach Svetislav Pesic with the Yugoslav national basketball team and they won gold at the European Championship in Turkey 2001 and FIBA Indianapolis World Championship in 2002.
Petrovic and the Serbian national team also won silver at 2009 European Championship in Poland, during his coach career with Dusan Ivkovic.
